چکیده

safflower is one of the oldest cultivated plants and oilseed as a native iran could have in the development of oilseeds cultivation. to evaluate the morphological characteristics of safflower (carthamus tinctorius l) an experiment was conducted as a completely randomized design. the figures include 1- pi 23755 2-pi 239041 3- pi 250202 4- pi 250532 5- pi 25268 6- pi 253515 7- pi 253541 8- pi 253559 9- pi 253895 10- pi 235658 11- pi 262447 12- pi 306599 13- pi 306174 14- pi 3146650 15- pi 401479 16- pi 544025 17- pi 613514 18- zarphan279 19- sina is. the results showed that safflower seeds have a significant effect on seed vigor. the highest seed vigor in the pi 23755 to an amount equal to 10/5, respectively, compared with the sina (control) had the lowest seed vigor, increased 50%. the results showed that safflower seeds have a significant effect on germination rate. pi 23755 germination quickly to an amount equal to 10/3 seed per day as compared to the sina (control) had the lowest germination rates, increased 46%. the results of this study showed that among the varieties than other cultivars pi 23755 in terms of germination potential treatments better than other varieties and the varieties can be planted in the region.

Breeding improvements in safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.): A review

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is an oil seed crop that is grown not only for its edible oil but also for its applications as animal feed and plant-made pharmaceuticals. Historically, biometrical genetics played a crucial role in the improvement of safflower seed yield and its components, phenologic and morphologic traits, and nutritional properties including oil, fatty (linoleic, oleic, s...

Quality evaluation of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars

Abstract Safflower is a minor oilseed crop in Australia where the market is dominated by canola, cottonseed and sunflower. Safflower however offers an alternative oilseed crop in marginal areas. This study was designed to evaluate current safflower lines and to determine their potential value both for edible oil and meal for animal feed. Two sets of samples were analysed. The first was a collec...

A Review of Fatty Acids and Genetic Characterization of Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius L.) Seed Oil

Safflower, Carthamus tinctorius L., is an annual oilseed crop that is cultivated on small plots all over the world. The seed oil content ranges from 20% to 45%; the oil is high in linoleic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid that aids in lowering the blood cholesterol level. Thus, safflower has long been used as medical plant in many countries, especially in China and India. However, for industrial...

Effect of plant growth regulators on oil yield and biodiesel production of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.)

The aim of the present investigation was to determine the effect of plant growth regulators viz., kinetin, chlorocholine chloride (CCC) and salicylic acid (SA) on achene yield and oil quality of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cv. Thori pertaining to biodiesel production. The growth regulators were applied at 10M as foliar spray during flowering (140 days after sowing). Kinetin was highly e...

Determination of Mineral Content in Methanolic Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Seed Extract and Its Effect on Osteoblast Markers

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds are used as a folk medicine to enhance bone formation or to prevent osteoporosis in Korea. Therefore, the methanolic extract of safflower seeds (MESS) containing high mineral content, such as calcium (Ca), potassium (K) and phosphorous (P), was evaluated for the role on osteoblast (Ob) markers of Sprague-Dawley rats. In serum of 3 to 11 weeks (wks) old ...

Detecting and quantifying the adventitious presence of transgenic seeds in safflower, Carthamus tinctorius L.

Safflower ( Carthamus tinctorius L.) is currently being developed as a platform for the production of novel proteins. Methods for detecting and quantifying transgenic safflower are needed to ensure seed quality and to monitor for its adventitious presence. We developed and compared three methods of assaying for transgenic safflower presence in conventional seedlots: field bioassays, enzyme-link...
